British Isle NDC to Ghanaians: “We wish you all Happy Farmers Day”

On the Occasion of the 26th National Farmers Day celebrations, the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter of the NDC has congratulated “our farmers and fishermen during the celebration of this important day.”

In a statement issued on the eve of the celebrations, the Chapter said, “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the critical roles being played by our hard working farmers and fishermen to ensure food security in our country.

We are aware that agriculture is the mainstay of the Ghanaian economy. The sector contributes 35% of GDP and provides employment for over 60% of the population.”

The Mills Administration, the statement said, “fully appreciates the special role of farmers and fishermen, especially women as the main producers, processors and marketing of fish and food even though they have limited access to  resources such as land , water, credit, inputs and training.”

Below is the rest of the statement

“It is in this regard that the NDC government has committed itself to modernizing agriculture to enhance food security and reduce income variability for farmers and fishermen in the country under the Better Ghana Agenda Programmes.

The NDC government is committed to pursuing large scale introduction of appropriate agricultural modernization implements such as tractors, power tillers, cultivators and intermediate means of transport in order to reduce dependence on the hoe and cutlass as the main implement of agricultural production in the country.

The NDC government will continue to assist farmers and fishermen by providing the necessary infrastructure to support agricultural modernization process through the provision of improved access roads, dams, boreholes and harvesting techniques to enable Ghanaian farmers reach their full potentials.

The UK & Ireland Chapter and branches of the National Democratic Congress wish to express gratitude and support for the government’s programmes in seeking to enhance the social and economic well being of all our hard working farmers and fishermen in the country.”

It was signed by Alex Seshie-Vanderpuije, Public Relations Officer of NDC UK & Ireland Chapter.
